Re: OculusRift
Processing power is going to have to get a lot better before you can do 90 fps x 2 images with good graphics.

Re: OculusRift
I haven't been playing much of anything lately. Been dealing with real world stuff and resisting VR's sweet siren call.
I want to check out Valkyrie again after the recent large patch/content update though.
Interesting that Oculus are allowing Vive owners to play Oculus Store exclusives again. A good move on their behalf. Everyone with a VR headset should check out Lucky's Tale.

Re: OculusRift
It's tempting I won't lie, it's not exactly something I can say that yep I've got my money's worth from but its not done with yet so I'm happy to let it play it's self out at this point. That's the price of being an early adopter.

I was going to download Nvidia's VR funhouse game, but it only has Vive and as the supported headset, however Ambrose has downloaded it and he has a rift. Are you able to play it?

Re: OculusRift
You're able to look around and stuff but you can't actually do anything because it only supports Touch controls. Keeping it installed until Oculus release their Touch controls and then we should be good to go.flipswitch wrote:I was going to download Nvidia's VR funhouse game, but it only has Vive and as the supported headset, however Ambrose has downloaded it and he has a rift. Re: OculusRift
Minecraft is available now, well the beta is and there's a free trial available. I ended up buying it.
Now this is something different. You can play it in a virtual room, like playing it on a screen in 2d, or you can play it in 3D where you're literally in the game.
At first moving around I felt a bit uncomfortable, but after some more playtime that feeling went away and I can comfortably move around.
I plugged my rift back in just for this. Hadn't used it for a couple of months or so
There was a new firmware update available, so I had to update.
I downloaded big picture beta, which is just a virtual desktop in a number of environment. I made myself a cinema-sized screen and watched some of my movies. I tried out commando and total recall.

Re: OculusRift
Played the Rift DK1 ages ago, but tried the Vive the other night.
Just Fruit Ninja but I was completely sold. Just needs a price drop. Consoles can just stop being a thing now; if you're going to throw money at gaming machines specifically, it should go towards a Vive/Rift.
If I were 20 years younger I could see myself (and I imagine future generations) becoming stupidly addicted to it. My recent Vive experience had none of the DK1 Rift troubles I felt a year or two ago, and I can imagine that Vive + Minecraft = bye real life for many.

There's Vivecraft for Vive and Rift owners.

http://www.vivecraft.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Optimised for Vive.Vivecraft is a mod that turns Minecraft into a full-featured VR room-scale experience.
VR Features
Full roomscale support: Walk around your room as you mine and build. Blocks in Minecraft are 1 meter in size. You’ll be amazed how big they really are!
World scaling: Scale your size in the world up or down. Play as an ant or a giant!
Break blocks and fight by really swinging your hands!
Shoot your bow realistically by drawing and aiming two-handed!
Pet animals, feed horses, fill buckets in roomscale!
Multiple VR locomotion options for your preferred playstyle:
Arc teleportation, with optional limitations for a balanced Survival-mode experience.
Free-movement in the direction you are pointing the controller or your head.
Walkabout-style of rotation to use 100% room-scale movement. (Experimental!)

Re: OculusRift
Sorry for the double post.
My rift has stopped working. The orange light is on the headset but when I put it on the screen is all black.
Never had this problem before but I have read about it happening. Could be a driver issue or their HDMI cable is of poor quality.
I've packed it up for the time being,
It says no HDMI cable detected.
Tested out the HDMI port with another device and it was fine.
The pins on the rift cable are ok .
HDMI to DP no difference.
Sent customer support an email. The form asks for your order number which I don't have since I bought this off eBay.
Got a reply already.
He gave me a few things to try it out.
First I unplugged the HDMI cable from the rift and put it back in and now it's fine.
I'll see how I go now.

Re: OculusRift
Part of me wonders if I'm missing out on giving VR a fair crack without them. The other part of says a stick to racing games until there either something that is truly amazing or even better wait for gen 2 headset before bothering with waggle.
Re: OculusRift
I think it's a go-er. The tracking is precise enough to not only skewer fruit you're supposed to be slicing, but to gently catch one on your sword and keep it balanced.
As mentioned earlier, I'm completely sold on it. Also tried a WIP "Symphony of the Machine" recently, and could not believe it: I deliberately, calmly told myself for about a good minute+ that I was standing in a room, on carpet. But my brain did not give two s***s and the vertigo was just washing down me. Nothing was even happening in the game; I was just considering walking off a virtual platform. Regarding the controllers, that game involved reflecting beams of light with mirrors you positioned around yourself.
Utterly sold. It really is legit the next big thing imo.

I've been tossing up the pros and cons of preordering since the option became available, realised we're almost at the cut-off date, preordered this morning

Re: OculusRift
Dead and Buried = Free with Oculus Touch
Awwww yeahThe list of high-quality games that will be free when Oculus Touch releases in December just grew by one. Today, Oculus announced via a blog post that Dead and Buried, the highly anticipated multiplayer shooter, will be free with Touch at launch.
Most new systems typically launch with one free, high-end title but Touch is getting three. With this announcement, Dead and Buried is joining VR Sports Challenge and The Unspoken as free launch titles for the Touch platform. The entire trio meets the criteria of what most expect from a AAA experience. These are not tech demos or glorified controller tutorials. They’re all very fun, very well designed, and very free.
