Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Anyone buy this?
Everyone is saying the campaign is phenomenal, beating doom 2016 for FPS campaign of the year easily.
I don't have it, wasn't going to get it but I can't ignore these impressions, I think I'm in!

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
I want to play it, but I wish I could just pay half price and only download the campaign.
This should be the new way FPS is done because 5 hours is shit.
Angry Joe says 10-15 hours is ideal and I agree. Bethesda really need to do a FPS series that specialises in only a lengthy campaign and make that a major series to fill in the gap that is left by activision and EA where they have made multi the main portion of the FPS games.
Sometime you want to explore giant landscapes and take in the atmosphere of a level like stuff from the old days.
Games like Far Cry give you places to run in. Why isn't there a medal of honour airboune type thing by bethesda where you drop into a big area and infiltrate a enemy base like Snake Plisskin and then escape?? (and it has good story with NPC and buddy AI followers with personalities)
I'm thinking they take inspiration from movies like the Expendables or Black Lagoon anime. Basically we need a "duke Dukem" 80s style action hero who is a bad ass in gaming that doesn't have to obey anyone's orders because he is Elite.
There are too many military shooters that are placing you in conflicts for the government/banking families under the guise of fighting terrorist (which are also funded by the same people to give an excuse to invade peaceful countries by 'helping them' to beat up the fake threat and remove the leader of that peaceful nation who they don't control) , ...not saving the world against actual bad guys.
This is the difference between old games and the ones today. You are a boring motherfucker with boring people and the enemies are generic people who you don't care whether they are worth shooting at. I'm sick of multi. It's not as important as campaign.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Ignore GameHED, wanting to short change developers again. I'm really enjoying the single player campaign, definitely has its roots in COD but there is a lot of vertically to the levels and I was surprised how much thought goes into getting through a stage. I'm rocking the PC version because it was cheapest ($55 AUD through CDKeys, crazy cheap value) but I've heard the console versions are locked in at 60fps. Need to play more of the MP modes but looking like this will be in my top 5 for the year.
For the Master Race, it looks awesome in 1440p. Ultra and 100fps plus _b

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Developers that make short campaigns don't deserve my money. Even if they are great. If I have no interest in multi I don't want to have to pay for that mode. It's guys like Candy that are ok with games like SF5 not having arcade mode on launch day when other companies that make fighting games have them.
He is ruining gaming. Will have to wait for price to go down and/or preowned bin when people trade theirs in for No Man's Sky 2.
Don't ignore GameHED if you want to save money. I like robots just as much as the next guy and have Masterpiece Optimus Prime on my shelf. But if another company comes along that can do everything Titanfall does but give long campaign like Doom did, are you going to admit that Titanfall 2 is the lesser game?
No because you are too proud to admit mistakes. It's your ego. The lizards know you'll defend a corporation out of a need to maintain your image as unbiased critic in front of your peers so you won't lose respect but it doesn't work on true gamers man. We just want to ground you to earth.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Looking at early numbers, looks like no one bought it. I heard a lot of negativity during the beta, reviews have been good but I already bought BF1 and don't have free time for another shooter.
I think they messed up the release window of this big time, there is no hype and some people are skeptical of the long term community, especially on PC.
I've put the game in the buy on the cheap list.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Isn't the campaign only 4-5 hours like BF1? Hard to justify full price for that length imo unless you know you have a solid community MP component.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Nobody is saying it's not awesome. 5 hour campaign need to be longer so we feel like they care about campaign.
Multi guys have so many games to play. What about the guys who want multi but not a short campaign? Can't they make it at least the length of say halo 1?

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Multi games should be free to play to maximise user numbers and they can make money of hats and shit. See DOTA/TF2 etc.
The COD/BF year full MP model is crowded already, these games cost the price of 2 full priced games once you include season passes, ridiculous imo.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Buy it if you get time. But Doom = superior. ID Software with wolfenstein and Doom are still the king of campaign..lestat wrote:Isn't the campaign only 4-5 hours like BF1? Hard to justify full price for that length imo unless you know you have a solid community MP component.
What I like are linear games with huge levels and interesting worlds. COD gave us more of an action movie feel to games where you felt like you are always on rails in a theme park and people are scripted. 5 year olds love it because they don't get lost. But adults remember the days when levels felt like massive bases you could explore, search for people and experience different stuff, and fight different things based on where you went in the levels. Not just play shooting gallery arcadey envionments with invisible walls everywhere. Bigger games mean more options and that's why gameplay depth and level structure are closely related. Single playeer campaign is all about immerssion into fictional universe and wanting to live in it. Multi games need to be their own genre (like Overwatch) with a short campaign. While single player titles need big campaign with multi as an add on you pay for seperately imo. Too much competition in multi now.

I was getting full multi games over 3 years after release on Live with TF - that's a solid community in console terms.lestat wrote:Isn't the campaign only 4-5 hours like BF1? Hard to justify full price for that length imo unless you know you have a solid community MP component.

I think the open beta has hurt sales, there was a LOT of negative feedback at the time.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Just like the last Titanfall this games kills it, only this time a pretty damn good single player. Apparently there is no season pass for the game, so everyone has access to new maps for free.......
Ever since Titanfall came out I cant touch COD multiplayer. Played the COD beta last week, after 2 games I was over it.

Re: Titanfall 2 - campaign of the year?
Single player is very much worth the price of admission, level design is intuitive - way points are minimal so you are just pointed in the general direction and told to get there. LOTS of verticality (if that is a word) to the levels, nil loading screens to speak off so the levels seem huge. Added to that a pretty large online community and fun MP modes (tried a bit of Attrition and Bounty Hunt, pretty fun). Very happy, if you have a PC it's going for something like $60AUD at CDKeys at the moment, bargain.

But it's an EA game. Can't stand them. Nintendo has Federation Force so this doesn't even need to exist. Why play a clone?

Seriously comparing this to a 3DS game? Also, how would you know? You don't even own a copy of the game.

Hating a game because of it's publisher makes no sense to me.GameHED wrote:But it's an EA game. Can't stand them.

Not if it's EA. The other half of the campaign is probably DLC pack which will be made available in 2 weeks. It's time they escaped them.

I'm going to have to succumb to an Origin account aren't I. Even if EA games did come to Steam they'd still install Origin anyway ('sup Uplay).
