Re: TV Shows
Is anyone else watching this masterpiece? If you haven't, give it a go. It's probably easier to just give the wikipedia explanation..
Don't miss this. Smash the first two seasons out. The final season is here. It's absolutely brilliant. I don't even know what you could compare it to. It's one of the best series I've ever seen. The Leftovers starts three years after a global event called the "Sudden Departure", the inexplicable, simultaneous disappearance of 140 million people, 2% of the world's population, on October 14, 2011.[8] Following that event, mainstream religions declined, and a number of cults emerged, most notably the Guilty Remnant.
The story focuses primarily on the Garvey family and their acquaintances in the fictional town of Mapleton, New York. Kevin Garvey is the Chief of Police. His wife Laurie has joined the Guilty Remnant. Their son Tommy has left home for college, and their daughter Jill is acting out.[1] The second season moves the main characters to the fictional town of Jarden, Texas.

Preacher is back.
I think this can truly be described as some kind of violence porn.

Re: TV Shows
Binged season 1 of The Leftovers, 2 will be up shortly. Solid recommendation ol' chap. There's a lot to be said for going into a show knowing absolutely nothing about it other than it's awesome.

Re: TV Shows
The strain is also back! Great first episode after New York was nuked.
Re: TV Shows
Anyone watching Rick and Morty? I was a little disappointed with episode 2 of this season, but overall it's still my favourite show until further notice. Some of the guest voices lately have been fucking awesome.

Re: TV Shows
Yes, I am enjoying the Community cast voice cameos.
Decent eps so far, though pickle Rick needed more dialogue for laughs, not just action porn.

Re: TV Shows
So, how did we all like Star Trek Discovery?
I thought it was easily the best pilot episode of any Star Trek show. The cinematography was superb, the story was good, and the main characters were immediately engaging and likeable. It's a nice change.

Re: TV Shows
Pity they all died due to changing networks and a new production team. Hopefully the rest of the series is as amazing as the pilot.

Re: TV Shows
I really liked the first two episodes, but ep 3 yesterday took it to a whole new level. There are serious X-Files/Half-Life vibes going on with that ship. Fucken love it and streaming it in HDR looks fully sick brounfnknblvbl wrote:So, how did we all like Star Trek Discovery?

Re: TV Shows
Agreed. The pilot episodes set it up, and ep. 3 just knocked it out of the park. Of course, I'm under no illusions that the whole season will be this good, but they're off to a far better start than any other Star trek so far, IMO.

Re: TV Shows
I like it. Though ep3 felt like a completely different show.
Things seem a bit more advanced technology wise for something set in the original timeline before Kirk. Beaming from anywhere on the ship was what stood out for me. I can’t remember that happening in TNG. Thought it didn’t come about until Voyager.
It actually feels more like I’m watching Mass Effect the series rather than trek. The pilot was beautiful to watch though. Like a work of art.

Re: TV Shows
Yeah, at the moment it feels more like something set way after TNG. Having said that though, it's just not possible to make a show set in the future that looks less futuristic than TOS. That show looks dated as all hell.

Great point. Some of the music gave me huge Mass Effect vibes. Can't wait for next week!

Re: TV Shows
I like it but it doesn't feel like Star Trek. Tbh I think The Orville does a really good job of scratching that late 80s early 90s ST itch.

Re: TV Shows
I think you'll just have to face the fact that this isn't a time for episodic television content. Long-form storytelling is where it's at now, and I, for one, welcome our new dramatic overloads.

Re: TV Shows
I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I do really enjoy Discovery, it just doesn't have that Star Trek feel that I remember from my youth.

Re: TV Shows
Oh, I agree with you there.. but it still has a certain something that makes it Star Trek. So far at least, it's exactly the Star Trek I've wanted since Battlestar Galactica got reimagined, and it's the Star Trek we should have gotten with the JJ Abrams films (IMO).

And everyones a complete cunt. Always trying to sound smarter than whoever they are talking to, regardless of rank*. And then they go and enter a pitch black holding cell containing a creature of pure rape without even bothering to turn the light on!
Gotta admit it was enjoyable to watch her smug arse get ripped to shreds though.
