Agents of Mayhem - Saints Row and Crackdown have a baby

Post by GameHED »

Seems like one of those games nobody cares about but it's made by the guys behind the Saints Row games and features superhero type characters (like justice leagu?) vs evil organisation who want to take over Earth (it's the illuminati from street fighter III)

As usual Candy doesn't hype this because it's probably going to be a good game (like crackdown was on xbox360) and not a PC exclusive. So I made the thread to pimp it.

Reasons it interest me:
1. single player focused title (much like Doom and Wolfenstein)
2. Volition the company that used to do space sim before Saints Row made this
3. has appealing squad based system like GTA5 to flip characters based on the ability or stats
4. it's purple so we know the death of THQ isn't an issue. Saints Row is not dead. Why is it purple??
5. Johnny Gat appearance - will he die like optimus Prime in the transformers animated movie? Or is this merely a Gat look-a-like who took on the name of the character from the Saints games like the optimus prime in beast wars?
6. I like Marvel Ultimate Alliance and this seems like a similar thing (I could be full of shit but that's what it looked like)
7. coming out soon (maybe there will be porn on pornhub soon like overwatch)
8. open world with procedurally generated missions (better than Zelda Breath of the Wild?)

Justice Leagu? Is that a Japanese game?

Looks good. No robot character. Haven't these guys seen Overwatch? Put in a fucking mech droid guy and I may buy this. And give him a Iron Man chest blast thing or homing micromissiles swarm or better yet have both. His body is powered by dead alien robot dildo bats from the saints row games that were dipped in the irradiated poop of unicron's bum cheek.

I like purple stuff. So please put a purple decal of Princess Robot Bubblegum on his arm to show his love for american japanese anime cartoon pornos that are censored by australian feminists. His melee weapon is a beamsaber straight out of the gundam shows.

edit: upon further analysis this looks to be like borderlands/diablo a bit with the XP and the numbers appearing above people's heads to show damage. Doesn't seem to be much close combat as there is shooting. ie no wolverine type guy who just rushes forward to cut everything down and hyper gorey death animations of enemies which is a shame. Things like rushing an enemy, grabbing him and then using him as a shield to protect yourself from bullets, and then throwing the enemy into the enemies would be some good moves that could be included into the game so it's not just ranged fighting only. Maybe that's in it and I just missed it. He'd be good for wiping out zombie type enemies who are more vulnerable to bladed attacks and chopping moves. Also mage type characters that can disarm enemies by turning enemies against each other or having them be brainwashed into dropping their guns would be cool. (jean grey or jedi mind trick expert class of character. see the movie "Now you see me" and its sequel for idea on how this might work. ie hypnosis and brainwashing skill lets you control certain low level enemy to work for you in fights. These movies were heist movies about stage magicians. They could work that into the game set in futuristic time but have guns that can cause hypnosis effect or something like that. It could be considered the futuristic version of necromancer in fantasy rpg games, but instead of using zombies or skeletons you use robots and people)

No sign of Duke Nukem type character in the game who quotes old 80s action movies which is a disappointment..Maybe they are scared to death it will get low scores from polygon or something?

Getting above average reviews off of metacritic so far. Probably due to low framerate on pc hurting it.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstat ... hem?ref=hp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
this and the Dragon's Dogma franchise need co-op. That will boost its appeal since the open world genre is becoming crowded now.
But this game fills a niche: "the single player overwatch".

Unlike Saints the game is a rpg leveling up game so there is repetition as you grind. Overall the city is too empty unlike the city of stillwater in saints row 1 and 2. Good overall gameplay and shooter combat. (turn off the autoaim)

I wish these guys would make a Robocop game. Use the humour of the saints game with the hyper violence of robocop movies from the 80s. Only instead of realistic graphics they go the saturday morning cartoon style and robocop already has the jetpack on his body to leap around and fly around like the rockateer after he reaches a certain level of experience. Clarence Bodicar is only 1 of many main villains in the city of detroit but the cops turn on you in the end because you are taking their jobs and robocop has to fight crime without corporations helping him as he crowdfunds his upgrades through youtube videos which are recordings of his busts from a first person view and becomes a celebrity who is more popular with the community than the regular cops who are paid to hunt robocop down for doing their job better than human police and private security companies who rip off their clients.

Ever wanted an overwatch single player game? This is it. No co-op though whis a step back from secret of mana on SNES and Borderlands from last gen.

Don't expect it to play like Saints Row 1-2 where there was a focus on gangs fighting for control. It's more like the 4th SR game

Would like to see a serious sequel to SR3 without super hero stuff. The crazy direction it went should have been side games like what far cry blood dragon is to proper farcry games.

I think when real hookers started to play Saints Row and got angry that people could run over them, they decided to distance themselves from proper SR games which are supposed to be clones of GTA and not hybrid Crackdown/overwatch/battleborn clones.

Despite Saints Row 3 not being as good as Saints Row 1-2 in overall content, I thought the combat in SR3 was way better. I think Volition decided to scrap the idea of just making open world GTA clones and more towards action games and we started to see it in SR3 when they gave us a nice set piece opening and more smooth controls. This basically is the direction they probably wanted all along. When they started to add superhero shit in a game about gangs you knew they needed a new franchise to contain that idea.

I have a feeling that activision Blizzard may try to reboot Marvel Ultimate Alliance again. (that was the diablo with superheroes game last gen) Marvel Heroes (the Free-to-play action rpg mmo that was the modern equivalent of MUA) was recently shut down. Perhaps disney is going to bring that franchise back and we get a sequel to MUA2? I liked that game series. What I'd like to see is a return to the old days of the capcom arcade beat em ups but with super heroes in place of normal martial arts street fighters. You have classes just like in Dragon's Crown and stats that you level up as you play. 4 player co-op with a focus on team work to beat bosses and if you go solo the CPU controlled players that are in the team can be switched to in order to control them when needed. Final Fight 3 let you bring a bot into a single player game for enemies to attack while you could focus on others. That system needs to be standard in future beat em up from now on imo. But with the addition of switching to control the CPU character on the fly like in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games when you need to use the abilities of the other character to exploit boss weaknesses.

Too bad 2D hand drawn games are rare now. :( Man I miss the 80s-90s like the balding He-Man.._I wonder if the interest in cuphead sees a 2d revival?

Please let us know how it is. It’s heavily discounted on the Xbox store and wouldn’t mind grabbing it.

I'll try and get a quick play in, trying to finish off AC:Origins/Forza7 career first.

From some of the videos I saw, it looks enjoyable. It will be interesting to see how it looks and runs on the X.

2 for $20 at EB Games (some good games are part of that deal, like Mortal Kombat X). Has been fun, just what I wanted, single player, lots of explosions and silliness.
Currently playing: Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (PC), Far Cry 6 (PC), FIFA 21 (Series X), TimeSplitters 2 (Series X BC)
