Re: Time for a new TV?
Getting a 65" set for our new house. Is 4k worth the extra at normal viewing distances? There are still some nice full hd 65" sets.

If you get a 4k set now you can pick up one of last years models for a bargain. Saying that I have used 4k a few times with Netflix but besides that not much at all. It depends if you want to future proof yourself.

Re: Time for a new TV?
I have a 4K set we picked up late Nov/Early Dec and am yet to find any 4K supported media to try it out. There was something on Netflix but the way the telly is set up you must receive the signal first and from what I experienced with Netflix was the telly must be in 4K first. It was like some sort of high definition inception.

Re: Time for a new TV?
Yeah have looked a bit further and there are some good 4k sets which don't cost a lot more. We're outfitting a whole house though and trying to stay within budget so every hundred counts.

Re: Time for a new TV?
Wait for the inevitable end of.financial year sales. Although ours was just a price matching sale our telly was about $2k off for a 55" Sony 4K 3d Android and cost a total of around $1450.

Re: Time for a new TV?
Picked up a Sony KDL55HX850 for $600 refurbished from an authorised repairer. A warranty job where the owner got a new TV. Guys fixed it up and I get over a $1000 off the price. Only 1080p but a beautiful panel. Have nothing in the house except the 980Ti that can push 4K content.

Re: Time for a new TV?
I'm currently trying to decide if I should get a 75inch Sony XD9400 TV to upgrade from my beloved 64 inch plasma. My biggest concern is for that kind of money I could get a 65inch OLED B6.
So the dilemma is sacrifice 10 inches of screen for OLED or go for the big boy ?
Anyone care to share their thoughts ?

Re: Time for a new TV?
Yeah, I'd get that. Nothing can beat an OLED, and if you're coming from a plasma you wouldn't want to go LCD.
They're currently rated as the best TV at the moment.
Or you could wait for this set by Sony but they are pricey.

LG's flat-screen "B" series OLED models like the OLED65B6P are priced a lot lower than the company's flaghip models, but you know what? All of LG's 2016 4K OLED TVs use the same panel and video processing. So if picture quality is your top priority, the 65" OLED65B6P stands with the best you'll see this year.

Love these new hybrid OLED/LCD they’ve got now. Best of both worlds.

Re: Time for a new TV?
My Panasonic plasma has kicked it in after nearly 7 years. They want $200 just to assess it, and god knows how much it will cost to replace. Guessing it's time to get an OLED?

Re: Time for a new TV?
OLEDs are the best and coming from a Plasma they won’t make you want to gouge your eyes out.
Unfortunately they also have problems. Mine is just over a year old and has burn in (from the YouTube app) and a dark line and band right down the middle of the screen. Makes it look like the right side of the screen is darker than the right. Stupid thing is long gaming sessions have never produced any burn in.
LG are looking at it now so hopefully they’ll either replace the panel or the set entirely.
I really don’t want to go back to LCD though.

Wow great price for an OLED.
So you just go to the eBay store and enter code? It says expired.

Yep, their price was $2060 or something, then 10% off code from Ebay. Previous cheapest I'd seen was $2495 minus 20% off at the Good Guys ebay store

Re: Time for a new TV?
I recently bought a QLED but I would have bit on that OLED for that price. OLED has an amazing picture, but I worry about how they will hold up long term. It's for that reason I went QLED.
Speaking of, been meaning to ask people who own Samsung's if they use auto motion plus. It's terrible for movies I've found, but for some games it can be amazing. Red Dead 2, for example, feels like it's running at 60 fps. Tomb Raider as well. Some oddities can occur with the picture, but I feel it's worth copping for the smoothness. I'm wondering why no one ever speaks of it.

Re: Time for a new TV?
RDR2 already has like 300-800ms of input lag, turning on auto motion which adds another 100ms wouldn't really be all that off putting.
No one speaks of it because the 100ms of input lag is a deal breaker for many games.
60fps is about smoothness but it's also about responsiveness in controls/input lag. This is why most games that rely on low input lag now target 60fps, if you have a PC with 144hz it's even better and 60fps then begins to feel laggy and jerky once you get used to it.

Tokyo will be broadcasting the Olympics in 8K! Probably not in Australia though, just 4K on Foxtel.
I was considering buying an 8K telly after reading the hype, but this post changed my mind and saved my $$$.
