Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
With some custom controller settings I found the controls more tolerable than GTAV that I could play it with minimal stress.
You will get lower input lag on PC, plus plenty of mods I guess, that’s if you want to go through it again. I won’t.

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
In two minds about purchasing it. I want the upgraded graphics but don't want to have to go through half the story again. The console version is stupidly sluggish though.

Don't. It's incredibly broken. I can't even launch the game ffs.

Yep this is busted as fuck. Booted up once last night, I changed around some graphics settings and had to restart the game...won't launch ever since.

Getting a refund or waiting for future patches?
Must suck downloading 109GB then finding the game won’t run.

I'll wait until it's patched up. I love the game and want to really go in hard on PC.
Plenty to play while I wait - Outer Worlds is ready to go, still working through Hitman, restarted MGSV...no shortage of games plus I haven't even touched the latest Zelda on Switch

I went to get a refund, but Green Man Gaming just want to troubleshoot the issue. No, GTFO.
There was an update to the launcher last night that at least allows me to get into the game itself now.

I must have got lucky. Nil issues besides audio in the cut scenes.

So, here's a thing... I got a refund from Green Man Gaming.
I still have and can play RDR2. i've even uninstalled it and reinstalled it just to see, and it works fine. Well, as fine as RDR2 can work at the moment anyway. The launcher bug is randomly stopping from even playing GTA5 though. Ugh.

Apparently the stamina core depletion speed is tied to frame rate which ain't good especially if you're swimming.

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
Downloaded the game again, straight to my new SSD and it now runs beautifully every time.
Game looks fkn incredible. 4k, HDR, all settings high or ultra. Not locking at 60fps but I'm ok with that.

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
I started playing this again over the weekend, giving it another shot and the game seems to have clicked with me. I had issues with the controls last time and maybe I'm just more patient now, but I've gotten the hang of things and I'm really enjoying myself.
The game does have a very complex control scheme, depending on what state your character is in, buttons do completely different things and there are several of these different states. Then you have animation delay, so when you do a command you're committed. Once you do get your head around it, it's quite fun and I guess it's there because the game does have a lot of depth in its gameplay/simulation systems.
Just playing this on Xbone, I didn't feel like double dipping on this and on the X is looks incredible already.
This game really does have amazing attention to detail, the world feels alive, every time I roam across the land I'm greeted with some unique encounter, it's pretty incredible. The writing and dialog is exceptional too.

Ahhhh I double dipped this on the PC this morning.
I really wanted to play this with a mouse and higher FPS. Will report back on my experience.

Heh, didn't see that coming.
So did Epic's free game strategy influence you into buying it from their store?

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
I saw it on the epic store, but then I remembered that whether you buy it from epic/steam you still need to run the rockstar launcher, so I just ended up buying a key cheaper at GMG. My copy of GTA5 PC was already direct from Rockstar, so now I have 3 games in the Rockstar launcher(RDR2, GTA5, Max Payne 3).
So many launchers...

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
You know what t0mby, I'm so glad I backflipped.
This game feels so much better on PC, the controls are snappy, the mouse aiming is smooth/instant and gunplay feels sublime now.
It's like the way it's meant to be played, omg what a difference.
Performance is good here, using a low notch on the prefer quality preset @1440p, running 80-100fps, smooth as butter.

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who cares but Red Dead Online will be getting a much-needed content update on Tuesday the 28th of this month, 7 months since the moonshiner role was introduced. In the latest update, there will be a new role - the Naturalist. The Trapper from single-player will also be introduced into the multiplayer map, which will likely compliment the naturalist role. Outlaw Pass 3 will also release on the same day. I'm a bit happy about this. I've been preparing for it. I should be able to level the entire pass in less than a minute if R* hasn't changed the way things work. When new roles and outlaw passes are released it generally means some new skills to learn, new horses, weapon variants, (possibly) saddles, and a bunch of other stuff.

Re: First Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay
Went back to this. I haven’t touched it from playing other games such as, Days Gone, TLOUP2 and recently Ghost of Tsushima.
R* worth their manpower, many years of development and enormous budget, have created ( I’m taking visuals and presentation) a masterpiece.
The RAGE engine was made for this, literally.
How they crafted an engine with very few if any shortcomings is a giant feat.
I’ve been playing GoT as I said, and being an open world game I could compare them.
Visually, nothing I’ve seen and played comes close. This is benchmark for this generation.
The way the handle LOD and pop in, such as grass, trees, and the draw distance, where you can see lights from old run-down homes, camp fires or Saint Denis at night is remarkable. And this is running on a console. Every light is actually a light, and there are so many light sources with shadows on screen.
Just looking off into the distance, it’s almost like a painting. You can see grass, trees, shrubs, horses and carts all the way back. It’s not just everything around you that’s has this - it’s everywhere.
There’s so much more I could talk about, but I won’t.
I cannot begin to imagine what we’re in for with GTAVI.
Now about the controls..

About the lighting though, the other night I rode into Valentine (red dead online) and it was a foggy moonlit night. The moonlight was filtering through the trees and between buildings and it just looked amazing. Some of the most beautiful graphics I've seen in a game.

Just hit Chapter 4. Glad I’m getting back into this and enjoying the ride. For the record I bought this day 1.
