Installed it in the wee hours of the night. Since I am somewhat used to it from using my Surface.. it's no issue.. My Laptop does feel considerably more zippy though. Been kinda used to things chugging moreso after an OS upgrade *cough*Ipad IOS *cough*

Some things I think are great, some things I don't.

Just had a moment where I'd awoken my PC from hibernation and it just wouldn't let me login, it was coming up with no accounts to sign in to - I had to turn off the lappy.

No last.fm scrobbling from their music player is just shit.

I don't like how everything is different. Seems like my fan is constantly running. My clock in the taskbar is in 24 hr time and I can't figure out how to change it. Sure, Google. But do I have to Google every minutia?

I don't like how when I switch on from sleep or hibernate or whatever it is my laptop has been doing for 5 years when I close the lid, I now have a new screen sitting over my log in screen. I can't find my bio log in options which were hard enough to find in Windows 7. Sometimes it accepts my fingerprint and sometimes it pretends the fingerprint log doesn't exist.

I've only spent a couple of hours bewildered so far.

My date/time defaulted to 12hr time, I just changed it to 24hr. It's not that hard Cletus.

Having the lock screen is stupid for non-touch screens though. Really stupid.

I just love the mail, music and calendar apps though. That's about it.

Video is retarded.

Yeah well I've looked at the options on the clock and nothing. So when I eventually find the control panel I'll try to find an option there. Glad it was easy for you though, prick.

Haha. You're doing this all in desktop view right? I admit it's pretty convoluted to find, but I'm guessing it's because it's not an option you're going to change regularly.

Right click on the time in the taskbar -> adjust date/time
Change date/time
Change Calendar settings
Select the 'Time' tab
Then change the format to h:mm tt

The lower case h signifies 12-hour format. Capital H means 24 hour format.

Going through these apps makes me excited for my Surface Pro. Looks like it'll be of great use.

You need to drag your mouse up to the top-right hand corner of the screen to bring up any sort of system menu. Pretty annoying at times, sure it works great for a touch screen.

Drag your mouse to the top left corner of the screen to switch between apps, but alt-tab works the same way.

Thanks for that Maddy. I really could have looked it up but wanted to complain. So far it's all just a bit annoying and unintuitive. No deal breakers so far though.

Yeah I get the need to complain rather than looking it up, it's supposed to be getting easier to change this shit, not harder.

Oh and now it says I'm potentially unprotected, so I try to update Defender and it stops updating and then tells me I need to update.

Fun.

I just don't see the point in most people getting Windows 8. It's probably a little ahead of its time.

Yep,

It is pure genius on a half decent tablet but on an anything else there is no reason to rush (bother).

All I wanted was windows 7 with the new kernel and boot process. That's all they needed to do to get a sale out of me and many other people. Was that really so hard to do?
