OLD tech. My 2 year old K750i has a 2 megapixel camera, and what about 3G. Ipods are overrated and ilol @ itunes.

Out next month, Optus + Vodafone. Price slashed, but you'll need a contract. No ipod touch pricecut (ignore the news.com.au article, appears they think it's July already)

Price cut am good, but 2mp camera is a bit of a deal breaker and it doesn't seem to have a camera on the front for video conferencing, which means the only benefit of 3g will be faster browsing speeds.

Does anyone here actually use video calling on their 3G phone? Am also disappointed about the lack of upgrade to the camera, but I'll still get one soon I reckon

Yep apart from the camera, it looks great. 850mhz hspda as so it's ripe for next-g quickness.

If they keep inline with the $199US pricing here, I'm sold on one. Reading more on it, it seems apple acknowledge the high price held back adoption. With this new price point they can make massive inroads into the mobile phone market I think. Besides the camera issue, everything else looks pretty top notch.

As much as I hate to say it, same here. Even if I just use it for music and as a second phone to my N95, I'll grab it.

2mp camera is fine for a camera phone, you're not going to get much better real res out of a camera that tiny anyway.
Nice pricing, and it's ever so slightly lighter than the old one (and ever so slightly bigger). GPS included, very nice. Can't wait to grab one.
Shame about the lack of voice calling though, I may have actually used it, especially if you could use it with Skype.

Pricing is nice, but the contracts offered by Voda and Optus should be interesting, to say the least... aren't those two upgrading to 900mhz HSDPA, which isn't being offered in the iPhone?
I was hoping for more than 3G as an update. Still no MMS, and although I wouldn't use a front camera for video calls, I may have used it for video apps over Wifi, so that's a loss as well.

3g iphone = me on board. I'll go between Voda/Optus depending on how shitty their branding of it is

I predict lestat will get an iPhone only to sell it a few months later, then rebuy one a few months after that

No MMS: not confirmed yet. No personal ring tones: will get hacked anyhow.

If that pricing carries over worldwide, this thing is going to change the mobile market. As a Telstra customer (with about 16 months left on my contract) I'm hoping that Apple will also sell the iPhone somewhere down the line. Failing that, could you buy an unlocked 3G one from the US and use it here without too many issues?

Looks like they are locking the 2.0 iPhone OS X right down. Apparently the phone will be carrier locked, but unlockable for a fee (it legally has to be here in Australia) And it will have a outright purchase price... looking at about 500+. The $220 will be on a 2-year deal.

Activation is also now done at the carrier store, not at home, and Apple aren't selling them online, just at the stores (first one opens in Sydney next month). I think that it's going to get harder to get an unlocked phone. My guess? $200. On a $69 cap plan for 24 months. Not including data.

I'm happy to go on a plan, but I want at least 500mb of data a month...
